Police at Nateete are holding a suspect in connection with a disturbing case of child torture reported in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division in Wakiso District. The case involves a 10-year-old boy, a Primary Four pupil, who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by a woman entrusted with his care.
The suspect has been identified as Nankunda Esther, a 34-year-old resident of the same area. According to preliminary police findings, the child had been left under her care by her brother. However, instead of providing protection, the suspect is accused of subjecting the young boy to cruel punishment.
It is alleged that on Eid Day, 20th March 2026, at around 5:00 PM, the suspect burnt the child’s hands using a heated white polythene bag. She reportedly accused the boy of stealing money amounting to 100,000 UGX. The act has been widely condemned as inhumane and a serious violation of children’s rights.
Fortunately, the victim has since been rescued and taken for medical examination. Authorities have not disclosed full details of his condition, but confirm that he is now safe and receiving the necessary care.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to face court proceedings once investigations are complete. Police have strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that child abuse and torture will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Authorities are also calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of child abuse in their communities. They stress that protecting children is a shared responsibility and that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
