Police in Mityana District are investigating a shocking murder case in which a 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her estranged husband after a failed attempt to reconcile their relationship.
According to authorities, the body of Namatovu Sherina, a resident of Nakitolo Cell in Ttanda Ward, Ttamu Division of Mityana Municipality, was discovered in a cassava garden near a railway line. Her death has left the local community in deep shock and sadness.
The suspect, identified as Nsubuga Dube, 35, from Kasozo Village in Zigoti Town Council, is believed to have been in a troubled relationship with the deceased. The couple, who share a child together, had separated following a serious misunderstanding. Reports indicate that the woman had left her husband’s home, a decision he repeatedly tried to reverse.
Witnesses say the suspect had on several occasions attempted to convince Sherina to return home, but she refused. Some residents also allege that he made threats against her life if she continued to reject his demands.
The situation escalated on May 23, 2026, when both attended an introduction ceremony in the deceased’s village. It is reported that the suspect quietly joined the gathering and was seen speaking with Sherina, once again trying to persuade her to go back with him.
Later that night, around 00:35 hours on May 24, the two left the ceremony together. According to preliminary accounts, a disagreement broke out on the way home after the woman refused to follow him. The argument reportedly turned violent, and the suspect is believed to have strangled her during the struggle.
The following morning, police officers from Mityana Police Station visited the scene after receiving reports. The body was found with visible injuries around the neck and signs consistent with strangulation. Investigators also noted evidence of a physical struggle, including scattered clothing items near the scene.
The body was transported to Mityana Hospital for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Authorities say the suspect fled the scene and is currently on the run. Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to locate and arrest him so that he can face justice.
