Police investigating the theft of laptop computers from the Bank of Uganda have announced a major breakthrough after recovering all the stolen devices and arresting more suspects linked to the case. Authorities say investigations are progressing well and more details continue to emerge following intense operations carried out by security teams in Kampala.
The theft happened during the night of 3rd May 2026 when unknown people broke into offices of the Bank of Uganda located along Kampala Road and stole six laptop computers. The incident raised concern among the public because the central bank is one of the country’s most important institutions responsible for managing Uganda’s financial system.
Police had earlier arrested two suspects and recovered two of the stolen laptops during the first phase of investigations. However, detectives continued tracking other individuals believed to have participated in the theft or handled the stolen items after the break-in. Their efforts later led to the arrest of two additional suspects, bringing the total number of people in custody to four.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the new arrests helped investigators recover the remaining four laptop computers that had not yet been found. Police confirmed that all six stolen laptops have now been recovered successfully and are currently being kept as exhibits to support the ongoing court process.
The suspects arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Kule Boaz Micheal, Kabuya Ramathan, Lubangakene Isaac Izoo and Oedo Jorem Jude. Police say the suspects are expected to appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on 20th May 2026 after completion of the required legal procedures.
Authorities revealed that the suspects will face several charges including office breaking, theft, receiving stolen property and retaining stolen property. Investigators believe the arrests and recoveries mark an important step in ensuring accountability and protecting public institutions from criminal activities.
Kampala Metropolitan Police has assured the public that investigations will continue until everyone connected to the crime is identified and brought before the law. Police leaders also praised investigators for acting swiftly and recovering all the stolen computers within a short period of time.
