A tragic road accident occurred on the night of March 20, 2026, in Luwero District, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving eight others injured. The accident took place around 11:30 PM in Nkonde Village, located in Nyimbwa Sub-County, along the busy Kampala-Gulu Highway. The two vehicles involved were a White Toyota Hiace, with registration number UBR 333S, and a White Taata lorry, registered as UBG 873K. Both vehicles were driven by unidentified individuals at the time of the crash.
According to initial reports, the Toyota Hiace, which was carrying passengers from Kampala to Amolatar District, was struck by the Taata lorry, which was loaded with poles. The lorry was traveling from Luwero and heading toward Kampala when it attempted to overtake a long line of cars. The dangerous overtaking maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with the oncoming Toyota Hiace. Tragically, three male passengers in the Hiace lost their lives instantly in the crash. The eight remaining passengers, all male, sustained various degrees of injury.
The injured victims were quickly rushed to Mulago Hospital and Kasana Luwero Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the three deceased were transported to Luwero Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, and inquiries are still ongoing.
