The Uganda Police Force has reminded all Ugandans that the National Cleaning Day will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 7:00am to 10:00am across the country. During these three hours, movement on roads and water bodies will be restricted to allow communities to take part in the nationwide cleaning exercise. The police are calling on everyone to cooperate and actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
According to the police, the National Cleaning Day is part of the Government of Uganda’s efforts to improve sanitation, protect public health, and reduce diseases that are caused by poor hygiene and an unclean environment. Authorities believe that a cleaner country will create healthier communities and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
The police have urged all members of the public, including motorists, traders, institutions, local leaders, and residents, to fully support the exercise. People are encouraged to remain within their communities during the cleaning period, clean their homes, workplaces, markets, drainage channels, and other public areas before normal activities resume at 10:00am.
To ensure the exercise is carried out smoothly, the Uganda Police Force announced that vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and vessels will not be allowed to move during the exercise except in special circumstances. Traffic movement will be restricted across the country between 7:00am and 10:00am.
However, several categories have been exempted from the temporary movement restrictions. Emergency vehicles and people seeking urgent medical treatment will be allowed to travel, provided patients carry relevant medical documents while health workers carry valid identification. Security vehicles on official duty will also be permitted to move, along with cross-border vehicles using major transport routes.
The police have further advised the public to cooperate with security officers deployed during the exercise and avoid unnecessary confrontations. Anyone with concerns or requiring clarification has been encouraged to seek guidance from the nearest police officer or supervisor on duty.
The Uganda Police Force has emphasized that the success of the National Cleaning Day depends on the cooperation of every citizen. By participating in the exercise and observing the temporary movement restrictions, Ugandans will contribute to creating cleaner neighborhoods, protecting public health, and building a healthier environment for future generations.
