Uganda’s Inflation Continues to Skyrocket As Food Prices Reduce- UBOS Report

The Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for proving National Statistics has revealed that Uganda’s Inflation Continues to Skyrocket but with reduction in food prices, Spyreports has learnt.

This was revealed by Juliet Nakayenga the Principal Statistician while releasing the annual Consumer Price Index at UBOS headquarters in Kampala. “The annual inflation in Uganda now stands at 3.7% compared to 3.2% ,” She says adding that the good news is that food prices have lowered.

“Ugandans who have been depending on single meal or eat once in 48 hours can now have smiles on their faces as food prices have reduced, meaning people can now afford more than one meal a day,” she says.

She further states that the prices of Matooke have reduced by -12.3%, dry beans -2.2%, Ovacado -9.6%,Onions -4.4% and Irish potatoes-2.3%. “Despite having low prices on food ,prices of other goods continue to go up still making the life harder for the majority of the population,” She sounds adding the prices of fuel is still going up making transportation of people and their goods difficult.

“Inflation on has shot up from 8.8% to 8.5%, Diesel from 10.6% to 13.2% Cooking gas from 0.8% to 4.3% among others,” She added saying that there was inflation increase for passenger transport services from 9.9% to 11.9% and also education services increased from 4.1% to 5.7% respectively.

The report has indicated that Kampala registered high inflation at 4.7% compared to 3.9% followed by Masaka at 4.1% while Arua recorded lowest inflation at 2.2%.

Some of the products whose prices have increased include beef, Rice, Laundry soap, Talapia Fish,Local chicken, Smoked Tilapia among others.
