Must read

The Kampala Metropolitan Police has released an update on investigations into a violent robbery in Nsambya in which more than UGX 45 million was stolen from officials of a forex bureau. The police say several suspects have now been arrested, while efforts continue to track down others still on the run.

The robbery happened on 6th May 2026 when officials of Riverside Forex Bureau left Bunga Trading Centre carrying USD 13,000. The money was being transported on a motorcycle to be exchanged into Ugandan shillings along Kampala Road. However, after completing the transaction, the officials were ambushed at Nsambya by a group of attackers riding six motorcycles.

According to police, the gang violently intercepted the victims and stole UGX 45,184,600. The attackers quickly fled the scene, leaving investigators to piece together evidence from the crime scene and witness accounts. The incident shocked residents and highlighted growing concerns about organized robbery gangs targeting cash movements in the city.

Initial breakthroughs in the case came on 12th June 2026 when police arrested two suspects identified as Kamoga Yudah, also known as “Sparta,” and Kayabula Arnold, a boda boda rider. During the same phase of investigations, officers recovered a motorcycle registered as UMA 602KK, which is believed to have been used during the robbery.

As investigations continued, police announced the arrest of three more suspects. These include Atusasiirwe Farouk, also known as “Gaza,” a resident of Nansana; Ssemakula Ibra, alias “Bugalo Mwenda,” from Bulenga; and Matovu Alex from Kazo in Kawempe. Authorities believe these individuals may have played different roles in the planning and execution of the robbery.

The police say they are still pursuing other suspects who remain at large. Investigators are working to establish the full network behind the attack, including possible coordination, surveillance of the victims, and escape routes used after the robbery.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police has assured the public that all individuals involved will be arrested and brought to justice. They also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially involving organized groups using motorcycles for criminal operations.

The case has drawn attention to the increasing use of boda bodas in city robberies and has renewed calls for stronger monitoring of cash movements and tighter regulation of motorcycle networks in Kampala.
