Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander ACP Emitu Ezekiel has called on local leaders and residents of Kawempe Division to work closely with security agencies in the fight against crime and the promotion of peace in the community.
ACP Emitu made the remarks during a security sensitization meeting held at St. Kizito in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, where he engaged local leaders, security officers, and community representatives on ways of addressing security challenges affecting residents.
The meeting brought together the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, heads of departments from Kampala Metropolitan Police, officers from Kampala Metropolitan North led by the Regional Police Commander (RPC) North, as well as Local Council I chairpersons and councillors from different areas of Kawempe Division.
During the engagement, ACP Emitu highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining law and order, saying that effective policing requires cooperation between security agencies and the public.
He urged local leaders to actively support security efforts by providing timely and reliable information to the Police to help identify, track, and arrest individuals involved in criminal activities.
The Police commander specifically raised concern over drug abuse, warning that it remains one of the major factors contributing to crime, especially among young people. He called on leaders and residents to work together in preventing the spread of drug-related problems within communities.
ACP Emitu encouraged parents, community leaders, and residents to play a bigger role in guiding and mentoring young people, saying that strong family and community support can help protect youths from being recruited into criminal activities.
He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and that residents should not leave the fight against crime to the Police alone. Instead, communities should actively participate by reporting suspicious activities and supporting lawful security initiatives.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander also encouraged residents to take part in the upcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections by choosing leaders who are responsible, accountable, and committed to working with communities and security agencies.
He assured the public that security teams would maintain adequate deployments throughout the electoral process to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully, freely, and safely.
The meeting is part of ongoing Police efforts to strengthen community policing, build public confidence, and create stronger partnerships between law enforcement agencies and citizens in Kampala
