Thousands of parents and guardians across the Country are having sleepless night after police report has shown that fire in schools is escalating, Spyreports has learnt.
According to annual fire report that was released by Director Fire and Rescue Services AIGP Stephen Tanui shows an increase of 3.6% increase in school fires.

He says school fire cases shot from 55 incidents in 2024 to 57 in 2025. Some of the school fire incidents were reports at St Mary’s primary School girls Dormitory at Kezia zone, Makindy in Kampala.
However Tanui revealed that there was a decrease in fire cases which fell from 1595 cases in 2024 to 1310 in 2025 indicating a decrease of 17.9%.

“Out of the incidents registered, 1000 were fires while 300 were rescued operations,” Says Tanui adding that 970 fires were responded to and managed by the response team. He further says 20 were handled before arrival and 10 were false calls.
“A total of 475 fires representing 47.5% were reported between 06:00 hrs and 12:00hrs,” Says Tanui revealing that most of fires were registered in residential building structures with a total number of 600 cases.
Tanui in his report says Electricity related fires were 492 followed by Negligence and Misuse of wax candles with 86 cases with Kampala Metropolitan area leading with 264 cases.
