The DPP Presses Charges of Corruption against Minister Kitutu, Scheduled to plea in Court Today.

The Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Mary Goretti Kitutu Kimono, has been charged by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions with corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The charges are related to accusations that she diverted iron sheets that were originally intended for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

In a tweet on Wednesday evening, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions announced that the Director of Public Prosecutions, Jane Frances Abodo, had given her approval for the charges against the Minister. The tweet also stated that the Police have been instructed to bring the Minister to court the following day, April 6, to enter a plea.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has consented to the charges. The Police have been directed to produce the Minister in court for plea tomorrow (April 6),”

Minister Kitutu, who is currently in police custody, has been accused of not delivering iron sheets and other relief items that were intended for Karamoja. It is alleged that she diverted some of these items to individuals who were not supposed to receive them, including her own relatives.

The (IGG) has released a list of individuals who allegedly received iron sheets that were meant for the Karamoja region.

The list includes high-ranking government officials such as;

7. Judith Nabakooba (Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development)
8. Mary Kitutu Goretti    (Minister for Karamoja Affairs)
9. Dennis Hamson Obua (Government Chief Whip)
10. Rose Lilly Akello (Minister for Ethics and Integrity)
