Police Want Fire Hydrants In Every Building.

The Uganda Police's Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services is drafting a law that would require all building owners to install fire hydrants and other services that may be utilized to put out fires.

According to the 2022 Police Crime Report, the number of fire occurrences rose by 16%.

Despite the fact that many of these occurrences might be controlled, according to the police, reaction times are being hampered by issues like access routes, insufficient fleet, and traffic congestion, particularly in the city.

James Apora, the acting director of fire prevention and rescue services, believes that in order to ensure that every building owner takes fire hydrants and other equipment that can be used in case of a fire emergency into consideration, legislation needs to be passed.

The directorate now employs 600 people throughout its 43 fire stations and 46 fire engines, which they claim is insufficient.

In a same vein, the Uganda Police's Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has urged all parties to work together to cut down on boda boda fatalities on the roads.

They claim that because the issue is still significant, combating boda boda crashes requires a multi-sectoral approach.

1,404 of the 4,534 fatalities in traffic accidents were boda boda cyclists, according to the 2022 police annual crime report.
