UBOS Halts Interviews For Census Supervisors, Enumerators Over Bribery Claims.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics which is in the process of conducting the 11th National Housing and Population Census and the first ever digital Census has put a temporary halt on the interviews of Census supervisors and enumirators across the country after the bureau received information that some conmen have calling the short listed people to send shs 100,000 to be able to pass the interviews easily.

The news of halting the interview process was announced by the Executive Director of UBOS who also doubles as the Census Commissioner Dr Chris Mukiza while addressing the media at Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo on Monday evening.

He says the bureau received Country wide complaints who have not been short listed. "Those with qualifications have been excluded and replaced with those without genuine qualifications in the shortlisting process,"Dr Mukiza says its One of the National Complaint the bureau has received.

He adds that the applicants have also complained of people demanding shs 100,000 to pass the interview. " There is also a fake one line advert making rounds on social media about census recruitment (https://adhoc.ugcensus.inforgov.sit/). "After receiving several complaints, we halted the interview process to solve the raised issues first," he says.

Dr Mukiza reveals that the display of short listed candidates should continue until Friday 12th April 2024 across the Country.

 "The objective of displaying the short list is to ensure those who were erroneously shortlisted are reported for administrative review," Sounds Dr Mukiza adding that all those with issues recruitment should lodge in their complaints with evidence of having applied to be reviewed by recruitment team at the district and who are working with closely with UBOS Human resource team.

 He also clearly stated that "No one is required to pay money during this recruitment process," adding that any body who demands money from any shortlisted candidate should be reported to the nearest police station for investigations.

 "The Bureau is an all equal opportunity employer and would like to assure all Ugandans of the utmost transparency in the recruitment processes we undertake," Says Census Commissioner.

He further adds that census recruitment closed on 22nd March 2024 and no more solicitation of applicacants for Enumeration supervisors and enumerators.

 He further said that those who passed through the window with fake qualifications and were shortlisted would be got when interviews begin.

 "A very technical team will conduct the interviews any body who was shortlisted wrongly would be got and thrown out," he stated during the briefing. He further warned any staff of UBOS who could be behind the fake online advert with the intention of damaging the good image the bureau had built to be careful.

 "On the issue of UBOS staffs being involved on fake online advert I cannot deny or accept the cyber security will tell," he says. He added that if any staff is found to be behind, administrative actions will be taken against them.

"Those who went against Bureau rules were handled administratively and you are all aware so no body is above the law at UBOS," he revealed.
