Two Foreigners Remanded To Luzira Over Invalid Work Permits

Five foreigners who were arrested in Lira City by immigration inspectors for violating Uganda's immigration laws were arraigned before court for prosecution.

Three of them pleaded guilty,were convicted, and given fines or a one-year imprisonment in default.

The Court also ordered them to legalize their immigration status within two weeks or face deportation.

The remaining two were remanded to Luzira Prison until February 7th, 2024, to enable the court to get interpreters. 

However, court has urges all foreigners to abide by the law and avoid legal consequences.

During a routine inspection in Lira City today, a team of inspectors from the Immigration team, arrested 10 illegal suspects of Indian and Pakistani origin.
These suspects were arrested for working without valid work permits, which is a violation of Immigration laws.
