Arrested NRM MPs Charged Before Anti Corruption Court.
The three arrested Members of Parliament; Yusuf Mutembuli (Bunyole East), Paul Akamba (Busiki county) and Cissy Namujju (Lwengo District Woman MP) have been charged with corruption today Wensday afternoon at the Anti Corruption Court in Kampala.
Court records indicate they solicited a 20% of share of the Uganda Human Rights Commission's 2024/25 budget, promising to influence its increase. The trio have pleaded not guilty of all the counts.
The MPs had been detained at the Kira Road Police station for two days over an alleged budget corruption scandal involving Parliament and Finance Ministry officials.
The President of Uganda while adressing the gathering at the Heros Day celebrations in Kiboga District noted that he has proof of the corruption between the ministry of finance Officials and some Parliamentary staff.
“I have been hearing that from the Ministry of Finance, they collude with the accounting officers of ministries to come to Parliament working with some people there (Parliament) to provide certain funds, provided you take a share.I didn’t believe this but now I have proof,” said President Museveni on Thursday. The President said the corrupt syndicate should expect serious consequences.
Mutembuli serves as Parliament’s Legal Committee Vice chairperson, while Cissy Namujju is the Lwengo Woman MP. Akamba represents Busiki County in Parliament.
