Cop Whose Gun was Used to Kill Indian Businessman Remanded to Luzira.
Buganda Road Court has remanded a police officer for allegedly supplying a gun used by Ivan Wabwire in the killing of an Indian businessman at Raja Chambers to Luzira prison.
Police Constable, Stephen Murombo, working at CPS Kampala, faces two charges: negligence in his line of duty and failure to protect a firearm.
Buganda Road Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza read to the accused that on May 12, 2023, at CPS police station, while he was employed in the government as a police officer, he was found guilty of failure to protect his SMG rifle with 120 rounds of ammunition prompting Wabwire to use it in the gruesome murder of money lender Uttam Bhandari.
However, upon reading the charges to PC Murombo, he pleaded not guilty but had no sureties and was therefore remanded.
The police have confirmed that Murombo was arrested for his involvement in the alleged criminal act and was henceforth terminated from Police.
These events occurred in a case where Wabwire was killed and several others were robbed, and he is currently in Luzira prison awaiting trial.
Murombo's case has been adjourned to June 13, 2023, for further hearing due to the delay in gathering evidence.
