Court Ignores Museveni's Plea To Deny Corruption Suspects Bail - Releases MPs Cissy Namujju, Akamba And Mutenmbuli On Shs50m Cash Bail
The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court Justice Lawrence Gidudu released has shunned the resident Museveni's request to the judiciary to deny all suspects arrested on corrution charges.
The three legislators,Cissy Namujju (Lwengo District Woman MP), Yusuf Mutembuli (Bunyole East), and Paul Akamba (Busiki County) have each been granted a UGX 50 million cash bail, along with other stringent measures, including depositing their passports in court and UGX 100 million non-cash for each of the sureties.
They were granted bail after determining that their failed attempt to solicit funds from the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) budget did not involve physical violence or any assets requiring government recovery.
They are charged with soliciting for a bribe from the chairperson of UHRC in order to have her budget enhanced.
On July 1st 2024 the Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mariam Wangadya testified against three Members of Parliament.
She told court that Hon Yusuf Mutembuli told her that all MDAs give Legislators a 5% budget cut before their Budgets are passed.
