Mobile Licensing System Issues 745 Driving Licenses in Lira City in one Week.

During a week-long exercise by the Uganda Driver Licensing System in Lango sub-region, 745 motorists were able to obtain their driving licenses.

The Ministry of Works and Transport launched the "Mobile licensing System" in Lira City and started issuing driving licenses to drivers and other motorists in the area.

The system received a total of 1,170 applications, issued 745 licenses, and is currently processing 450 new applicants who are undergoing vehicle driving tests.

Peterson Mandera, the team leader of Uganda Security Printing Company Ltd, stated that the exercise was successful because they met their goal of providing licenses to motorists.

Mandera says that about 50 motorists could not acquire licenses because they either failed or feared undergoing driving tests.

Lawrence Ogwal, a motorcyclist from Lira, is suggesting that the team operating the Mobile Licensing System should consider running the system on a regular basis.

This is because many people from the far corners of Lango sub-region had to travel all the way to Gulu to obtain their licenses. Therefore, Ogwal believes that regular operations of the Mobile Licensing System will save these individuals from the inconvenience of traveling long distances.

According to Haggard Otim, an instructor at Nelkoo Driving School, their institution produces approximately 100 drivers every three months. However, processing driving licenses for their learners remains a significant challenge. Otim suggests that this problem can only be solved by establishing a permanent driving license center in Lira.

Currently, the nearest driving license issuing center for Lango is situated in Gulu, serving Acholi, Lango, and West Nile sub-regions.
