Museveni Appoints Atingi-Ego As New BOU Governor

 For over two years, Bank of Uganda has been without a Governor, following the passing of the immediate former Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile on January 23 2022.

 Mutebile had been at the helm of the institution since 2001.

This vacancy has been filled with immediate effect following the appointment of economist Michael Atingi – Ego as the new Governor Bank of Uganda by President Yoweri Museveni. 

Michael Atingi-Ego is a Ugandan economist, who was appointed Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, on 29 March 2020.

At the time of his appointment, he served as the executive director of the Macroeconomics and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), based in Harare, Zimbabwe.

In the same development, president Yoweri Museveni has also appointed consultant and economist August Nuwagaba as the deputy Governor BOU.
