UBOS Warns Public Against Tarnishing The Reputation Of 2024 National Census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has warned the individuals that have made it a routine to tarnish the reputation of the institution by spreading false information about the National Population and housing Census 2024 whose preliminary findings were released by the commissioner of Census Dr Chris Mukiza that were officiated by the president Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the 27th of June 2024.

According to Dr. Mukiza , there is a group of people that have been disguising as Enumerators While others fueling certain Enumerators to accuse the UBOS that it failed to pay their facilitation for the services rendered during the Census enumeration.

UBOS has has however clarified that, upon verification, it was confirmed that most of these people were already paid.
It was also established that that these elements have ill intentions of damaging the reputation of some individuals who worked day and night during the census exercise.

'' Some of these individuals have been trying to reach out to some media platforms and social media influencers with the intention to de-campaign the census institution and undermine the credibility of statistical products''. Said UBOS boss.

It should be recalled that UBOS has always clarified that all Enumerators and parish supervisors paid through their mobile phone numbers registered in their names or bank accounts provided they have returned the tablet, power bank and the charger which were provided to each enumerator for enumeration exercise and has been cleared by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO),City or Division Clerk.

Dr. Mukiza noted that a total of 110,932 Enumerators have already been paid against 130,391 who participated in the enumeration exercise.

''The remaining participants have had challenges related to mismatches in their mobile telephone numbers and names or had issues related to the loss of an equipment used during the exercise and are being handled case by case and once cleared by their respective Local Governments, their payment will be handled immediately''. Said Dr Mukiza.

He has however revealed that the bureau is in the final stages to conduct the Post Enumeration Survey (PES),whose training has already started with about 1000 Enumerators undergoing the training sessions.

''The post enumeration survey will be conducted in all 146 districts and cities''. Revealed Dr. Mukiza.
It should be noted that PES is an independent exercises aimed at checking the quality of Census results in terms of coverage and content.
