Uganda Railway worker's union sues Uganda police Force over Long detention of it's workers.
Uganda Railway workers’ Union has sued Uganda police Force through the inspector general of police for over detaining its workers who were being charged with allegations of stealing fuel. The Uganda Railway worker's through its intention to sue document which was served to IGP demands an explanation as to why its workers were over detained beyond the legal time constituted in the constitution of the republic of Uganda.
The Union also demands an explanation from police force through IGP why their workers were not taken to court or not arrested after investigations but rather opted to over detain them for all long time.
"We have written an intention to Sue the police Force through you the IGP for over detaining our officers without considering their rights given to them by constitution that they are suspects until court proves them guilty, “our source quoted the intention to sue letter.
The intention to Sue letter also orders the police force through IGP to respond them within seven days short of that they will proceed to Court to get justice of their workers.
The arrested Uganda Railway workers’ are Echim Joseph a train driver, Wati Ronald driver trainee and Omukaga Benjamin Okwi Train guard. They were arrested from Buikwe and charged with embezzlement vide CRB 03/2023 of Uganda Railway police station.
