90% Of Census Activities Are Complete-UBOS Executive Director
The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and the independent body responsible for conducting the National Housing Population Census have revealed that over 90% of the coming Census activities have been fully completed. UBOS will conduct a National Census on 10th May 2024.
The Executive Director of UBOS Dr Chris Mukiza while addressing the media at UBOS headquarters in Kampala says 50 Districts in Uganda have been completed in the form of Data collection. He further adds that in 58 districts the activities are 90% complete while in 13 districts over 80% of the census activities have been completed.
"We have not started mapping in Kampala Metropolitan districts of Wakiso, Mukonk, and Kampala," he says adding that UBOS is going to deploy a lot of troops because the areas are heavily populated.
The UBOS boss says in the district of Nwoya the census activities are at 72% because of long distance. Other districts where census activities are below 80% are Kotido and Amulator among others.
He further added that UBOS has completed identifying both international and domestic suppliers for tablets to promote Buy Uganda build Uganda (BUBU) and the first batch of tablets is expected by mid march while the last will be received in early April.
"The procurement of other required materials that will be used by the field staff such as reflector jackets is on going," The National Statistician revealed to the Nation. He States that UBOS will under take an e-recruitment system starting with running an advert for the position of supervisors and Enumerators for District, Sub-Counties, and Parish levels.
"The advert is expected to run in February and will be followed with the training of successfully recruited census staff during April before they are deployed in May," Adds Dr. Mukiza.
