We Offered Govt Data Of House Holds During Kiteezi Land Fill Saga-UBOS.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent institution responsible for providing data and statistics has confirmed that it offered government with right information the number of house holds that were affected by Kitezi land fill recently, Spyreports has established.
The information was revealed by Dr Senono who acts as Deputy Executive Director of UBOS during the Geo Information System day at UBOS offices in Kampala.According to UBOS, Kitezi dumping site covers two villages that is Lusanja and Kitetika all found in Wakiso District.
The information further shows that Lusanja town Council has a total of 3931 house holds and 59 were affected by the land fill while Kitetika has 1391 house holds and only one was affected. UBOS reports indicates that Kitezi has a total population of 12847 while Kitetika has 4702.
"We managed to get all those statistics about the house holds in Kitezi and Kitetika using Geo Information System which is the new technology," he says adding that UBOS has all the Statistics about the house holds in Uganda.
He added that if UBOS had not changed from paper maps to GEO maps, they would not have managed to get the data government wanted about Kitezi. He adds that UBOS was able to conduct the National Census and housing population on time because digital equipments like tablets, drons, among others.
"We mapped all administrative Units in Uganda using GIS and we finished on time," he says adding that they got the data on time. "99% of the Country population was enumerated due to use of GIS and results were released on time," He revealed.
He says GIS helped UBOS to allocate physical features like schools, Health Centers, water bodies among others during Census. "With GIS, it would be easier to tell government the distance between people and health Centers or police stations in case of any emergencies, " Says Dr Senono adding last Census it was heard because they depended on papers.
" GIS helped us to connect with field people and those in office. We would tell our Enumerators their boundaries and this eased their work during Census, "He stresses.
Favaia Zabali Musisi who represented KCCA GIS has helped KCCA to know illegal developments in the city. " We have developed an app to track illegal developments and we have so far trapped 499 illegal structures, " She noted adding that illegal developments in the city cause disorder.
She further says that the application might reduce on corruption by structure owners since it captures the entire area.
She further urged all illegal land developers to formalise project development before tough measures are under taken. She also emphasized the importance of comprehensive physical plans for Kampala's future development.
"Let us map these structures for better Kampala," she says adding that the public can report illegal structures on the KCCA website.
