AGONY; Two Children Die inside House over Suffocation, as their Mother Had Gone for Overnight Prayers.
Tragedy struck in Kabowa, Rubaga division, in the early hours of the morning as two children lost their lives in a house fire.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire , Nasasi Zidda, the owner of the house, left her three children sleeping while she went for overnight prayers.
The fire is believed to have started from one of the rooms, where 12-year-old Seruwaji Ashraf was sleeping, and quickly spread to the other room where eight-year-old Kawuki Arafat and ten-year-old Namuddu Aya were sleeping.
Despite the prompt response of the community, Owoyesigyire said Arafat and Aya suffocated to death, while Seruwaji sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, and the cause of the fire outbreak is currently unknown.
“The crime scene investigating teams have been deployed to the scene to collect material of evidential value to determine the cause of the fire. The bodies of the deceased children have been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination” Owoyesigyire said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing their condolences and support to the affected family.
