South Sudan Gov't Blocks All Social Media Platforms For Three Months

The government of South Sudan has directed all internet service providers to block all social media sites from midnight  of 22 January 2025 for at least 90 days.

In a letter to internet service providers government said, the directive follows “violent attacks” against South Sudanese refugees in We'd Medani that have been widely shared online. 

"We Formally request for the blockage of these social media sites for a minimum of 30 days.This directive may be lifted as soon as the situation contained.The contents depicked violateour local laws and pose a significant threat to public safety and mental health especially the vulnerable groups".The letter reads in part.

This directive was signed by Napoleon Adok Gai  the south Sudanese director General National Communication Authority.
