Be Vigilant over Potential Terror Threats, Gen Kasigazi Tells Kasanda Miners
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Tumusiime Katsigazi has called onto miners from Kassanda District to be vigilant over terror threats.
On Thursday 17th August, 2023, in a meeting held at Kyekampala in Kijuna Sub-county, the DIGP reassured the attendees that "the primary objective of this meeting was to directly address the pressing security concerns prevalent in the mining areas." The DIGP also assured the miners of the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of the region.
DIGP Tumusiime had embarked on a significant visit to Kassanda district where he extensively toured various mining areas within the district and gained insights into the operations of gold mines and the challenges faced by the industry.
In his address, he underscored the importance of comprehensive worker profiling as a preventive measure against crime, particularly highlighting the potential challenges posed by immigrant workers.
Furthermore, the DIGP emphasized the need for vigilance against potential terror threats and the significance of mitigating them effectively.
The tour covered several key mining sites including Kisita Gold Mine in Mbirizzi sub-county, Ngugo in Mbirizzi sub-county, Lubali in Kitumbi sub-county and Kyekampala in Kijuna sub-county.
In attendance were the police directors, immigration officers, representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, miners, and local leaders.
This collaborative dialogue highlighted the collective responsibility required to bolster security in the mining sector and the surrounding communities.
