Electoral Commission Commences Nominations for Oyam County North By-elections

The Electoral Commission has today, Monday 19th June 2023 kicked off the nomination of candidates to contest in the by-election of the MP for Oyam County North.

The nominations are being conducted at Oyam District Council Hall in Oyam Town Council, starting at 9am and ending at 5pm.

Aspiring candidates are required to fulfil all the requirements for nomination for Member of Parliament.

Six aspirants have so far booked a date and time for nomination as candidate for Member of Parliament, and are expected to return their nomination forms for verification during this two-days exercise.

These include; 

1. Amolo Queen Dorothy (Independent)
2.Apio Otuko Eunice (UPC)
3. Engola Okello Samuel (NRM)
4. Okello Daniel (NUP)
5. Okello Freddy Newton (FDC)
6. Omodo Willy Kagere (Independent)

The nomination exercise will end on Tuesday 20th June 2023.

Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for thirteen (13) days, that is, from Thursday 22nd June to Tuesday 4th July 2023.

Polling and counting of results for by-election of the Directly-elected Member of Parliament will be conducted on Thursday 6th July 2023, at all the one hundred and sixty-seven (167) polling stations in Oyam County North Constituency, Oyam District.

The by election is as a result of the murder of the former MP and State Minister for Labour Rtd Col Charles Engola Okello Engola who was shot dead by his UPDF bodyguard Pte Wilson Sabiiti on May 2 at his home in Kyanja, Kampala.
