FDC Najjanankumbi Leadership To Step Aside For Dialogue Is Day Dreaming -Amuriat Tell Besigye.
The Forum for Democratic Change Party president Hon Patrick Oboi Amuriat has noted that the party will not limit Katonga Faction leaders or any member to leave FDC and establish a new political party.
''The Ugandan constitution guarantees this freedom in Article 29(1)(e), stating “Every person shall have the right to freedom to form and join associations or unions, including trade unions and political and other civic organizations.”He quoted.
''Within the FDC party, there is freedom of entry and exit. Our colleagues operating at Katonga road as a pressure group have the option to develop into a fully-fledged political party if they desire, as we do not coerce anyone in FDC'' Amuriat added.
Amuriat says Besigye and his group will not be the first group to leave the Party to form a new one. citing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya Turwomwe, a key founding leader who left FDC and established the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) in 2010, and former Party President, Hon. Rtd. Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu formed the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) in 2019.
He vows never to tolerate anyone using force to remove legally elected Party leaders from the Headquarters at Najjanankumbi warning that, if they resort to violence, the party is ready to handle it with an appropriate response.
The strength of FDC is never on account of an individual not that Besigye's departure will not lead to the collapse of the party.
Should the Katonga faction continue to make countrywide consultations in the name of FDC and misrepresent the party with party colors, risks being dragged to court law.
''We have been promised and threatened with such attacks many times, such as the “Tujja Tujja,” but it has become a familiar refrain from our colleagues but we must defend the Party. Anyone who attempts to attack us will face equal measures'' Amuriat warns.
Amuriat revealed that,Besigye warnts to snick the Kampala lord Mayor Erias Lukwago from the back doors of the party to lead FDC advising him to wait for the four and half years for him to ligible to lead the party.
However, the reconciliation gesture, as recommended by the Special Elders Committee report led by Hon. Prof. Frank Nabwiso, and adopted by the Special National Council sitting on Friday, July 28th, 2023, at the Party Headquarters in Najjanankumbi. Dialogue is the way forward, and we are prepared to engage with our colleagues for the betterment of our Party. Amuriat said.
