MPs Mawanda, Akamba, Mudimi, Lawyer Kirya Denied Bail - Remanded Until Thursday Next Week.

Three Members of Parliament, Igara East MP, Hon. Michael Mawanda, Hon. Mudimi Wamakuyu( Elgon County MP) and Busiki County representative Paul Akamba and Lawyer Julius Kirya Taitankonko of Kirya Company Advocates, have appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court for a bail application related to corruption charges.

They are charged alongside with Leonard Kavundiira, Principal Cooperative Officer at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives of conspiring to defraud and divert public resources intended for war claims compensation to cooperatives.

The court was informed that the accused, who previously deferred their right to apply for bail, are now ready to do so.

They hare appeared before Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro. 

They are accused of management of Shs 7.3 billion of the Shs164 billion for compensation of cooperative societies that lost funds and property in wars between 1979 and 2006.  

They have been remanded to Luzira and will return next Thursday for their bail hearing, allowing the prosecution time to verify the sureties' details.
