NUP Member Pardoned By President Museveni Praises NUP For helping Her Out Of Prison
President Museveni has today pardoned 19 National Unity Platform Members who were court-martialed and sentenced for treachery and unlawful possession of ammunition.
They had already served 3 years and 8 months on remand.
Among those released is Olivia Lutaaya who narrates the journey to her freedom.
“The person who approached me in prison was Balaam. We were asked to choose between pleading guilty to the charges or rot in prison. We had to accept the charges and get convicted and later be released after serving our sentence. Balaam said he knew the charges were trumped up but he said we had no choice but accept the charges as it was the only option available. They pledged to give us jobs, houses and money,” Emotionally stated Olivia Lutaaya who came out of Luzira women’s prison today afternoon.
The party secretary General David Rubongoya stated that Lutaaya survived by a whisker because even outside the prisons premises, there was a drone on standby with heavily armed regime security operatives who wanted to abduct her and take her alongside the rest of the other 18 members to Kyankwanzi for indoctrination.
Olivia luckily fled on a random Boda Boda that took her straight to our headquarters. It’s so absurd that the regime is again haunting these comrades even after coercing them to change their plea to guilt on trumped up charges. He added
