NUP Will Take A Firm Moral Decision Against Hon Mpuuga If He Doesn't Respond To What The Party Told Him To Do -Kyagulanyi

National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobiwine has said that the party will take a firm Moral Decision against Hon Mathias Mpunga if he doesn't do what the party told him in the last meeting. NUP's president Bobiwine said that the party leadership told Hon Mpunga to apologize, step down as parliamentary commissioner, and also refund the money back to parliament.

"We told him to do only three things which are to apologize, step down as parliamentary commissioner, and refund the money which we thought are moral and would prevent his image in the public," says Bobiwine. Bobiwine added that the party has not forced him to resign but they think Hon Mpunga will find deeming to do what the party asked him. Bobiwine further said that he loves and respects every leader in the party and when it comes to Mpunga, he values him a lot but he can't put him or any other leader above the Moral of the party and the entire Ugandans.

''No one loves Mpuuga more than I do. But even if it were my secretary, it's a moral issue for me. I won't cover up for our leaders. He's not suspended, we only advised him to step down as Parliamentary Commissioner and I believe he can rehabilitate. Our relationship can return to normal, but Uganda's integrity comes first. We reject impunity and corruption. It's tough but necessary, Kyagulanyi said.

This is not about Kyagulanyi or Mpuuga; this is about standing on the truth. We have many politicians who are for sale. If money is what is going to divide the party leaders, then let it be. If standing on the moral side of history, so be it. We treasure the values that brought us together as a party- Hon. Kyagulanyi

Kyagulanyi while appearing on one of NTV's morning shows said that he has no personal issues with my Deputy President, Hon. Mpuuga whom he appointed as his Deputy President, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Parliamentary Commissioner noted that He is a good leader but simply wants him to do the moral thing.

I don't want Hon. Mppuga to think that he is helping us or himself, I believe he will look into himself and his conscience to do the right thing and to the public, I urge you not to be abusive to Hon. Mpuuga; be respectful and hold us accountable in a rightful way. Hon. Kyagulanyi added.

However the parliamentary spokesperson Chris Obore said, There is no political party that can remove a Parliament Commissioner but just nominate and it's MPs that appoint and it takes more than half of the MPs to vote out a commissioner.

Hon Odonga Otto a former legislator for Aruu County expressed the need for a salary and remuneration review commission in Uganda, this same parliament NUP is against paying all MPs. MPs earn UGX 1 million a day, UGX 30 million a month

He added that NUP made a political mistake as this should have been solved internally.

Last week NUP leadership released a document asking Hon Mathias Mpuuga to resign over accepting Sh.500million as a service award which the party regarded as corruption and abuse of office.

However, Hon. Mpuuga called this a plot to tarnish his image since the money he received was lawfully awarded to him and other commissioners vowed never to bend on the Party's plea for him to resign.
