Police Identifies 11 Students’ Burnt Bodies in Kasese Massacre

The forensic experts from the Directorate of Forensic Services, together with the Joint Medical Teams from the Police, UPDF and Bwera, have identified 11 bodies of students who were burnt and 6 are pending. 

The team obtained biological samples from the unidentified bodies and from the relatives who were missing their children. The samples marked Body 1-17, were immediately submitted to the forensic lab for further DNA analysis.

17 students of Lhubirira Secondary School, located in Nyabugando cell, Nyabugando ward, Mpondwe Lhubirira Town Council, in Kasese district, were burnt beyond recognition, in the boy’s dormitory, during the tragic terror attack on the school by suspected ADF, on the 16.06.2023.

"We would like to inform all the matched persons, whose names appear below to link up with the Forensic and Medical teams, on Tuesday, 27.06.2023 at 11am, and pick the remains of their loved ones, at Bwera Hospital mortuary," Fred Enanga the Police Spokesperson said.

"We further call upon the relatives to the remaining 6 victims, whose bodies have not yet been identified to send their biological mothers, maternal aunts and or maternal grandparents, to Bwera Police Station, on Tuesday 27.06.2023 at 10am, for sampling," he added.

Enanga noted that the burial arrangements continue to be coordinated by Government, through the Ministry of Education and Sports.
