Police Send Strong Warning To Scrap Dealers On Buying Vandalized Gov't Electricity Infrastructure
The police of Uganda have warned public and scrap dealers on always giving excuses whenever arrested with vandalized items that they were just sold to them.
This followed an incident of Electricity infrasture thief between 16th and 17th January, 2025 in a village of katanda, katanda sucounty , in Rubirizi district, suspected criminals vandalized 120 metres of electric wires from a three phase power line.
Police coordinating the Electricity body and sister security agencies are looking for the suspects over subotarging govt projects.
Police warned that scrap dealers give excuses whenever arrested with vandalized elect wires which will not be entertained anymore.
Kituuma Rusoke the Police Spokesperson noted that, Offences related to vandalism of government electricity infrastructure have punishments ranging between five and 12 years of imprisonment and a fine of approximately Shs1bn.
In a related incident, Wakiso police have in custody three suspects arrested from Lubigi swamp, wakiso district suspected to be part of the gang terrorizing people using Northern bypass and neighbouring people of lubigi swamp.
A number of items were recovered,including 15 motorcycle number plates, six motorcycle side mirrors, padlocks, mobile phones , log books , Somali currents , breaking items among other tools,
The suspects are Niyonzima Richard 28 year old kizza David 42 yrs, and Ngoobi Ali . "The operations will continue to curb criminality in the area". Said Kituuma.
" These criminals target people walking and riding along northern bypass". He added.
The police commended the area local authorities for siding in fighting criminalities in the area.
