President Museveni assents to 6 Bills
President Yoweri Museveni has on Monday 29 May 2023 signed 6 bills into law. These include, the Anti Homosexuality Bill 2023, Museums and Monuments Bill 2022, the Public Health Amendment Bill 2022, the Markets Bill 2022, Microfinance Deposits taking Institutions amendment Bill 2022 and the Law Reform (Miscelleneous Amendments) Act 2023.
The Museums and Monuments Bill 2022;
The Museum and Monuments Bill 2022 looks to strengthen the administrative structures for the effective management of the cultural and natural heritage subsector, provide for the development, management and maintenance of museums and monuments, provide for the classification of museums, formalisation, control and protection of tangible and associated intangible cultural heritage, works of collection.
The Public Health Amendment Bill 2022;
The Public Health amendment Bill 2022 equips the government to deal with emerging public health threats and emergencies unlike before. The amendment makes it possible to include non communicable diseases NCDs in the law, which will help the government to addrss the country's rising NCD threat.
The Markets Bill 2022;
The law provides for the establishment and management of public and private markets; licensing of private markets, registration of markets and vendors, levying and collecting of market fees.
The Microfinance Deposits taking Institutions amendment Bill 2022;
The Microfinance deposits taking institutions amendment bill 2022 allows microfinance deposit-taking institutions to offer services related to Islamic banking, agent banking and bank assurance, among others.
The Law Reform (Miscelleneous Amendments) Act 2023;
The Law Revision (Amendment) Bill 2022, provides for the conversion of fines and other financial amounts specified in currency points and to provide for the conversion of financial amounts expressed in [British] pounds”. Provides for the amendment of several laws to correct the anomalies in those laws and to effect the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court.
