President Museveni orders compensation for families of Gomba school tragedy victims.
President Yoweri Museveni has instructed the State House Comptroller to ensure that each of the four families who lost a student in a tragic accident in Gomba is compensated with shs5 million.
He has also directed that shs1 million be given to each family of the 14 students who sustained injuries in the same accident.
During his address to parliament on Thursday, the President urged the Prime Minister and Attorney General to contact the affected families to ensure that the truck owners compensate them in accordance with the law.
The accident occurred on Tuesday when a truck, registration number UBL 790J, crashed into a classroom block at Kasaka Secondary School in Kanoni Town Council, Gomba District.
The truck driver was arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the school fence before hitting the computer lab, where students were studying. Three students died instantly, and eighteen others were injured.
