Reopening Uganda House In Kenya On Halt Over Destruction By Protesters
The newly refurbished Uganda House a commercial building located at Kenyatta Avenue in the Nairobi Central Buusiness District was yesterday 25th June 2024 vandalized and set ablaze just two days to its slated reopening date on 28th june 2024 this friday.
The government of Uganda through the ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the violence that resulted todestruction of property and loss of lives.
The statement signed the the permanent secretary for foreign Affairs Ministry Vincent Waiswa Bagiire indicated that the 6-floor Uganda House building has been undergoing renovations and was only occupied by commercial tenants on the ground floor with other floors like the third floor which previously housed the Counsular Office vaccated to allow for renovations.
In the wake of protests in Kenya on June 25th 2024, the protestors abandoned the principle of peaceful demonstrations and took the path of destruction of properties wherein the newly refurbished Uganda House– a Commercial Building located on Kenyatta Avenue in the Nairobi Central Business District was vandalized and set ablaze. The statement reads in part.
The Government of the republic of Uganda would like to categorically stae that our relations with the Government and indeed the people of the Republic of Kenya remains solid. We support peaceful demostrations as a democratic right but we condemn in the strongest terms, violence that leads to destruction of property and loss of lives. Stated the statement.
