Sacked UNBS Executive Director Ebiru Arrested by IGG
The Inspector General of Government IGG, Beti Olive Namisango Kamya has this afternoon arrested the sacked Executive Director of Uganda National Bureau of Standards UNBS, David Livingstone Ebiru over corruption allegations and abuse of office.
Ebiru was on 21 July 2023 summoned to appear at the offices of the Inspectorate of Government over the said allegations but he was a no show. This prompted the Deputy Inspectorate of Government IG) Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe to issue an arrest warrant.
Earlier this week, the National Standards Council appointed Daniel Nangalama as the acting Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) executive director. Nangalama replaced embattled David Livingstone Ebiru who was sent on forced leave.
David Livinstone Ebiru last week confessed before the Parliament’s Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), chaired by Joel Ssenyonyi, that he had issued Shs100 million to the National Standards Council (NSC) as a bribe to retain his job.
Police was ordered to arrest Ebiru on the misappropriation of shs 12.5 billion and also shielded five staff under his watch who are said to have caused a financial loss of shs 9.28 billion.
According to the Inspectorate of Government, IG, David Livingstone Ebiru will be arraigned in the Anti-Corruption Court.
