Ssekikubo Censure Motion In Suspense As MP Basalirwa Receives Orders To Challenge Its legality In Court.
The Bugiri Municipality legislator Hon Asuma. Basalirwa has threatened to sue Theodore Ssekikubo representing Lwemiyaga County in Paraliament and all Members of Parliament involved as well as MPs who have signed the motion intending to censure the four Commissioners, saying his suit will also involve all MPs who have appended their signature to the censure motion.
Hon Basalirwa says that he received orders from one of the mentioned Commissioners Hon Solomon Silwanyi to challenge the censure motion saying that it is a contept of court to discus matters still in courts of law.
The same motion faced another challenge when some MPs like Veronica. Nanyondo representing Bukomansimbi district who wrote to the speaker indicating her intention to withdraw her signature after realizing the she was hoodwinked as an attendance list for the meeting called by Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and she appended her signature on the contraversal censure motion.
“We haven’t even reached the point of handing over our signatures to the Speaker, why is she in the rush? Why didn’t she wait until all signatures are handed over the Speaker before she asks for hers to be withdrawn? The Speaker shouldn’t interfere in these matters, she makes MPs look bad, the Speaker should leave MPs alone,” noted Ssekikubo.
Ssekikubo described Nanyondo’s move as unfortunate and part of the drama censure motions in Parliament are known for.
MP Balimwezo Nsubuga (Nakawa East) expressed surprise at Nanyondo’s letter, describing her decision as unfortunate & warned that such actions are intended to derail the censure process.
“It is a surprise to me and it is very unfortunate that she has come out to withdraw her signature after the censure motion. We were in Cabinet & Cabinet is for Cabinet members not any other member. She came in basically to sign the censure motion and she appended a signature on the piece of paper that had the motion, so you can’t tell me she came to sign an attendance list on the meeting she wasn’t part,” said
