The Search Is Over! Kidnapped Child Recovered, Suspect Arrested
Police in Kampala have today successfully arrested Kato Geofrey, who is alleged to have kidnapped 2-year-old Ayan Makanga on 10th October 2024.
The child was taken after Geofrey tricked the mother, Nayakaisiki Fatumah, a resident of Kireka-Kamuli in Kira Municipality, into inviting him to her home under the pretense of discussing personal matters.
It is reported that while Nayakaisiki was preparing tea for the suspect, he fled the scene with the child.
Later that evening, Geofrey sent a WhatsApp message to the mother, demanding a ransom of UGX 150 million for the safe return of the child.
The parents immediately reported the matter to Kira Division Police, prompting a swift and thorough investigation led by a team from the Crime Intelligence Directorate .
Today, the suspect was apprehended in Kigarama Village, Kasanda District, and 2-year-old Ayan was safely recovered.
The child was found in good health and has since been reunited with their parents.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be processed for arraignment in court.
"We commend the efforts of the task team for their diligent work in resolving this case, and we also acknowledge the parents for their prompt reporting of the incident, which significantly aided the rescue efforts". Said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Public Relations Officer Kampala Metropolitan Police.
