M7 Awards EC Boss Byabakama Another Seven Year Juicy Term

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who also doubles as the Appointing Authority has awarded Justice Simon Byabakama the Chairperson of the Uganda Electoral Commission another seven year juicy term of office.

President Yoweri Museveni appointed members of the Electoral Commission after the term of 7 years in office ended on January 7, 2024. Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi has been reappointed as the Chairperson of the Commission, deputised by Hajjati Aisha Lubega. The Members of the Commission are; Stephen Tashobya, Dr Sallie Simba Kayunga, Anthony Okello, Pamela Etonu Okudi and Robert Kasule Sebunya.

This means Byabakama and his team will have to serve until 2031 and according to the law their term will not be extended any further. According to experts, Byabakama and his team will over see the 2026 and 2031 elections respectively. 

Byabakama was first appointed as EC boss in 2016 replacing Engineer Bardru Kiggundu.
According to the Sources, President Museveni extended their term for another seven years following the good election results they conducted in 2021 elections.
