The War Between Ukraine and Russia Must End Through Peaceful Talks, Museveni Says
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated that the war between Ukraine and Russia must end through peace talks.
"Our position remains clear, that the war must end through a peaceful process of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine. This war is affecting Africa, threatening world peace, not to mention the sanctions that are affecting many sectors like marine transport, banking etc," president Museveni said.
He made the remarks on the Monday 17/07/2023 at State House Entebbe where he met the Prime Ministers Emeriti.
"The Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and the Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi briefed me today on the recent visit to Ukraine and Russia with the other African Heads of State. I could not attend because of my isolation and recovery from Corona," the president revealed.
In June this year, President Museveni was not part of the African delegation to Kiev and St. Petersburg which comprise President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Macky Sall of Senegal, Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo-Brazzaville, Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia and Azali Assoumani of Comoros. Museveni would have been the seventh president from Africa in the delegation seeking to mediate the Ukraine Russia war.
