Police Recovers 03 Guns Used in Soroti City, Marach Murders
Territorial police units in West Nile and East Kyoga regions have successfully carried out intelligence-led operations resulting in the recovery of three guns and the arrest of three notorious suspects involved in violent shooting murders in Maracha and Soroti City.
In West Nile region, the police, in collaboration with the Flying Squad and UPDF, tracked down two suspects connected to a criminal armed gang. This gang shot and killed Mawa Bosco, a 38-year-old farmer, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on July 10, 2023. The armed assailants, wearing military fatigues, robbed the victim of his motorcycle before fleeing back to the DRC. The two arrested suspects, Dramuke Robert (alias Waigo) and Swaibu Magutani (alias Boy), admitted their involvement in the aggravated robbery and murder. They led the authorities to the recovery of two AK47 guns without magazines.
In a separate incident, the territorial police in East Kyoga and Soroti City apprehended Orego Francis, a 40-year-old suspect, for the shooting murder of Musisi John Baptist on June 30, 2023. The victim was killed at his residence in Soroti when two assailants demanded money from him. Failing to obtain the money, they shot him. The arrested suspect admitted to the murder and guided the authorities to the recovery of the murder weapon, which was hidden in his mother's garden. The suspect is currently under guard at Soroti Hospital and will face court proceedings once he fully recovers.
"The police extend gratitude to the task teams involved in these operations for their exceptional work in recovering three illegally possessed firearms. Removing illegal guns from our communities helps prevent future incidents of gun violence and related tragedies. The suspects are being processed for court on charges of murder and aggravated robbery, respectively," SCP Enanga Fred the Police Spokesperson said.
