Trailer Driver Loses Control Kills 3 Primary School Children, Arrested.

Mbale traffic police is holding a driver of trailer registration number UBH 126J/ UAH 012V for killing three primary school children after losing control of his vehicle.

The killed primary school children have been identified as Namugosa Shakira,9, a pupil of Malukhu primary school, Wakise Jane 3, and half years and Wasike Grace aged 12 years both from Nabuyonga primary school.

The arrested driver has been identified as Lukenge Geoffrey who is helping police in their investigations into the accident.

Traffic police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima confirmed the accident and the killing of the school children saying that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.

"It's true, we have arrested the driver of the trailer to help us in our investigations as we established the cause of the accident, “says Asp Faridah Nampima.
Nampima added that preliminary investigations indicate that two tyres of a semi-trailer deterred from the axle and hit the children to death.

She added that the bodies of the children were conveyed to Mbale city mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Statement on Mbale Fatal Accident
The territorial traffic police at Mbale Central Police Station has today morning 12th.April 2023, at around 7:30am registered a tragic traffic incident that claimed lives of three pupils.
Findings so far indicate that two tyres of a semi trailer registration number UBH 126J/UAX012V deterred from the axle and hit them to death. The vehicle was from Tororo side.
The accident happened at Hash Fuel station along Mbale-Tororo road.
The deceased are: 1. Namugosa Shakira 9 years and a resident of Malukhu Primary, Wasike Jane 3.5 years, and Wasike Grace aged 12 years both of Nabuyonga primary School.
We have arrested the driver a one Lukenge Geoffrey to help in investigations.
Meanwhile, the three bodies have been conveyed to Mbale City Mortuary pending postmortem examination.
