Kitutu Denied Bail.
The chief magistrate Joan Aciro, sitting at the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, has denied bail to Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu, who is accused of embezzling iron sheets meant for the vulnerable in Karamoja.
The ruling was made on Wednesday, and the magistrate stated that only one of the four sureties presented for the minister was substantial enough to secure her release on bail.
The charge sheet states that Minister Kitutu is accused of diverting 9,000 pre-painted iron sheets intended for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Program between June 2022 and January 2023.
This diversion allegedly caused a loss of public property and resulted in Kitutu benefiting personally and sharing with third parties. Additionally, it is alleged that in January 2023, the minister diverted 5,500 iron sheets, and her brother received 100 of them in Namisindwa district.
She was charged together with her brother Michael Naboya Kitutu. They spent the Easter holiday in prison.
