Two Arrested Over Stealing Numberplates At Night

Police in Mbarara District is holding two (02) suspects in custody in connection with stealing from motor vehicles, these include; Asiimwe Josephat (30) a businessman from Bwambala Rukungiri District and Nakunda Javira (34) a businessman from Buremba, Kazo District It's alleged that the two suspects during the night of 26-27 November, 2024 stole numberplates from motorvehicles that were parked in different trading centers in Mbarara District and left a phone number for victims to call.

 A ransom was to be paid for the number plates to be returned.

Police ably tracked the suspects and apprehended them in Rukungiri District.

The suspects later revealed where they had hidden the stolen numberplates.

 

Seven(07) numberplates were recovered and exhibited at Bwizibwera Police Station The suspects are pending prosecution in courts of law. 

In a related development, Naggalama Police on December 07, 2024 /12/2024 arrested Byaruhanga Kassim for impersonating as a Commissioner of Police and as an intelligence officer of the army.

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the arrest of suspects.

 

On the 24th day of July 2024 the DPC Naggalama police division received a phone call from a person claiming to be a Commissioner of Police by the name Tumusiime and who told her that there was an auctioning exercise of motor vehicles at Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)

The following day, the purported commissioner asked the DPC to send eight hundred thousand shillings (Ugx 800,000/=) to a telephone number he claimed was for URA.
