Finance Minister Hon Matia Kasaija has signed the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement for the Improvement of Medical Equipment at Regional Referral Hospitals Project with Mr. Inoue Yoichi, the Chief Representative of JICA in Uganda and H.E Yoshimura Tomotaka, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Japan in Uganda respectively.
The grant agreement worth JPY 941,000,000 ( approx.USD 6.8 million),UGX.24,250,000,000 aimed at improving infrastructure at Jinja & Soroti regional referral hospitals (RRHs).
The Deputy Head of Japan Mission H.E Yoshimura Tomotaka said Japan regards the health sector as one of the most important areas that deserve such support. " I sincerely hope that this grant aid assists Uganda to achieve its target in the health sector," he said.
"Our healthcare system faces daunting challenges with regional referral hospitals bearing a substantial burden of providing specialized medical care to a large population," said Minister Kasaija.
JICA Chief Representative Mr. Inoue Yoichi said the medical equipment is expected to strengthen the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of the two regional referral hospitals (RRHs).
Medical equipment to be provided include operating tables, operating lights for surgery, ultrasound scanners & anesthesia machines.
