UPC Expected To Declare Party Flag Bearer For The Position Of Dokolo Woman MP Today

The opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party is expected to unveil her flag bearer for the position of the Dokolo Woman MP seat Monday 19th February 2024.

UPC will now be joining  in the race, FDC’s Dr Rosemary Alwoch Ogwal the daughter of the fallen former firebrand legislator Cecilia Ogwal, NRM’s Janet Adongo Elau, National Unity Platform flag bearer Harriet Ageno and a host of under independents including Irene Amongi Ajwika, Dr Grace Anna Lalam and Dokolo NRM chairperson Beatrice Abang Molly Kia.

The general secretary for UPC in charge Lango Sub region, Bonny Ongura told Sprreports on Monday morning that the party will hold its district conference to elect the flag bearer in Dokolo Town Council,

The district conference is constituted of the district executive committee, constituency, and the 12 delegates from the sub-counties and parishes in Dokolo district.

According to Ongura, a total of 250 party delegates from Dokolo District is expected to meet Monday to elect the official party flag bearer.

In the 2021 general elections, the party fielded Sarah Aguti Nyangkori as her flag bearer and according to informed deep sources, she will most likely be endorsed today to carry the party flag.

This will be the second attempt for UPC under Jimmy James Michael Akena’s administration to win anotherby-election in Lango after a triumphant victory in Oyam North last year in July.

The seat of the Dokolo Woman MP fell vacant following the death of Atim Ogwal Barbara Cecilia.

The electoral commission has gazated 21st March 2024 as the date in which the by-election to get Cecilia successor will be held.
