UPDF Driver Who Shot Boda-boda Rider Dead at School Gate Could Get a Death Sentence.
A Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF driver who fatally shot a boda boda rider at a school gate in Wakiso district has been remanded to prison by the General Court Martial in Makindye.
The incident, which occurred at Kawanda Senior Secondary School in Nakisangye Zone, Nabweru Division in Wakiso District last November, followed a dispute between the driver and the victim.
Sgt Abdul Ssali, 48, was charged with murder under sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act, but pleaded not guilty.
Section 188 of the Penal Code Act states that any person who of malice aforethought causes the death of another person by an unlawful act or omission commits murder.
Section 189 0f the same law says that a person convicted of murder shall on conviction be sentenced to death.
Sgt Ssali however pleaded not guilty.
The army prosecutor, Lt Alex Mukwana, informed the court that investigations are ongoing and requested more time.
The case has been adjourned to May 5, 2023, by the army court chairman, Brig Freeman Mugabe.
