2026 Polls: UBOS Handa Over 36000Tablets To EC For 2026 Elections

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for conducting National Housing and Population Census in Uganda which is responsible for proving the government with Statistical data has today handed over a total of 36000 tablets to the Electrol Commission (EC) to help in organising the 2026 general elections.

The tablets were part of those that UBOS used in conducting the recent concluded digital Census. However UBOS in total handed over 60247 tablets to be used by different government agencies for data processing.

The tablets were handed over by UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza to Permanent Secretary to Ministry of ICT Aminah Sawade at UBOS were house based in Ntinda a posh Kampala suburb.

 "During Census government through UBOS procured over 120000 tablets that were used during Census. As I had earlier said that after Census, we shall give them to other government agencies," he says.

UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza shares some information with Dr Aminah Zawedde PS Ministry of ICT at UBOS wear house in Ntinda.

He added that EC took over 36000 tablets for electrol use,two tablets for each parish for Parish Development Model (PDM)usage. He added that a total of 1496 were given Community Development officers at Sub County level.

"We also offered Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) 350 tablets to help in monitoring government wealth programs," Reveals Dr Mukiza.

 He says town Councils were given 580,City Divisions were allocated 25 while district IT officers and Statisticians were given 181 each.

 The PS ICT Ministry says ICT will hand over tablets to various agencies to be used.

 "We shall install devices in these tablets that will help us to capture our data," she says adding they will have trained personels to use the tablets.
