77 People Killed In Weekend Road Accidents
Shock, panic and fear has engulfed drivers, passengers, riders and pedestrians after information has been released showing that a total of 77 people were killed in road accidents in just one week, we have exclusively learnt.
During an interview with the spokesman of Traffic SP Michael Kananura he says the department of traffic and road safety registered a total of 77 people who were killed in road accidents in just one week. "This number is extremely high and un believable ," he says.
He further says traffic police also registered a total of 405 road accidents in just one week. He states that 395 were victims involved on 405 accidents. He further reveals that 26 were on motorcycles, 19 riders and 32 were pedestrians.
"Most of the accidents where lives were lost occurred in Eastern Region that is in Musita where a speeding taxi knocked a parked trailor and 15 people died. Another one was in Namasoga where one accident claimed 6 lives," he says during and interview.
Kananura added that following the accidents, police carried out an operation where 3877 motor cycles were impounded and were given tickets. He added that during the operation, 997 riders and drivers were arrested. "Fika salam on all high ways will continue to curb the increasing number of road accidents," He says adding that sensitisation of both taxi and bus drivers Is also on going.
