Security In Kampala On Tension As Armed Robberies Raid the City

Security chiefs, city tycoons and general public in Kampala city and the sorrounding suburbs are currently living under serious fear and tension after intelligence reports leaked that a group of armed robbers have penetrated the city and are robbing people and businesses millions of money on gun point, Spyreports has exclusively established.

According to sources from crime intelligence unit of Police more than shs 500m have been robbed from city tycoons and from businesses in Kampala on gun point in just two days. "There is a serious group of armed people suspected to be either army deserters or from security agencies who have invaded the city and robbing people millions of money on gun point. The thugs don't care what time as long as they spot you with money," Says a highly placed security source.

The source says the armed robbers move on motor cycle. "After robbing, they fire live bullets in the air to disperse and scare away  the people who could have the intention of following them. The source adds that the armed robbers have also linked with some boba boda riders who camp on some banks to monitor people who with draw a lot of money from the banks. " We have found out that some boda bodas riders who park on banks are the agents robbers. After learning that you have withdrawn a lot of money from the bank, they follow you as call the thugs and later they block you and Robb on gun point," Another inside security source says. He added that security in now under panic and tension over this coordinated insecurity. "We are heading for festival season and when this habit increases in the city, people will flee and foreign visitors will not come for xmass holiday," Says another security source.

ASP Luke owoyesigyire the Deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area when contacted says, they have registered two armed robberies in the city in the period of three days where over shs 200m were robbed on gun point.
"On 2nd of this month, a Chinese investor while at Martin Road in Old Kampala was robbed of shs 200m in the evening on gun point," he says adding that when he was intercepted by armed robbers armed with SMG riffles, he fired five bullets but he was over powered and the money was taken. Police spokesperson adds that the robbers were using motor cycles. 

Owoyesigyire further says another armed robbery was registered on Sunday night at Namugona where the same group attacked fort bet company and put all the workers on gun point and later robbed shs 3m and 8 smart phones. "We call upon all people who move with huge amount of money to seek police or security guard protection to avoid losing their money.

Fred Enanga while addressing the media on Monday says Joint security forces over the weekend arrested armed robbed group which terrorised people in Kagadi district and robbed them of millions of shillings. He says the group was led by one Pvt Kato Ivan who is suspected to have deserted UPDF. " We arrested five suspects, we removed an SMG riffle, 400 rounds of live ammunitions and Army boots and uniforms were also got,"Says Enanga. He added that the gun was taken to baristic experts to find out  if it was used in recent murders. He says they have expended their investigations and suspects will soon be charged in courts of law.
However some security chiefs say it could be an organised armed group with intention of robbing people since we are entering xmass season where people move with millions of money.
